100 Little Mermaids Chapter 2

Aaand we're back! Last time Hibiscus was told by an elder mermaid that Sulani's mermaid population was declining. Because of this, Hibiscus needed to have as many little mermaid babies as possible. The mermaid elders helped some by providing her a house and some eligible mermaids, but the rest was up to Hibiscus. She had daughter Snow by mother Cassie Winters, and is expecting a baby with Cherish Waffles.

Hibiscus decided that she didn't want to hurt her fish friends anymore, so she decided to get into bee keeping. Was bee keeping really much better? She was stealing their honey! At least they got to live, though. That was more than she could say for the fish.

She also got an odd text from Cherish that day. Who told Cherish she needed to be nicer? She was plenty nice! Plus if Cherish thought she was so awful, why'd she decide to have a baby with her?

Hibiscus went for her nightly swim, and ran into Kiernan. Though he spent a few days in her house, Hibiscus really didn't know much about him.

"So it's pretty cool being a mermaid, huh? Are there lots of mermaids where you're from?"

"Mermaid? Who said I was a mermaid?"

"You're literally swimming beside me, and I can see your tail."

"I've gotta go!"

Maybe Kiernan was just shy? Still that was totally weird.

Kiernan visted the next day, and he seemed to be nice to baby Snow at least. He didn't really talk to Hibiscus, though.

Snow continued to be super hungry all the time. How could a baby even fit so much food in their tiny little body?

Night on the Town soon rolled around, and Hibiscus wasn't one to turn down free food. She invited Kiernan along, hoping this time he'd actually talk to her, and to her surprise, he accepted!

"So Kiernan, I'm sorry if I was, um forward the other day. I didn't mean to scare you off."

"I was being a bit ridiculous. It's just where I'm from, most of us mermaids have to stay in hiding. Old habits die hard, y'know."

"I guess I understand. Still I'm a mermaid too, and well never mind, let's not dwell on it. The food's here!"

"I can't wait to see what the chef picked out for us. It was fun to ask them to surprise us."

"Yeah, it was. I didn't take you much for a risk taker."

As Hibiscus and Kiernan stared down at the strange food in front of them, they both agreed that sometimes risk taking could be a bad thing. What even was this stuff?

Kiernan would randomly let out a bunch of dolphin noises in the middle of their conversation. Now that he knew he didn't need to hide being a mermaid he seemed to be going all out, or at least that's what Hibiscus was guessing. He was a man of mystery.

"This was a fun night. It was nice to get to know you more Kiernan."

"You too *dolphin noise*"

"Can I get a kiss?"

"But of course."

Hibiscus couldn't help but feel giddy. Even though everyone involved knew this was casual and for the betterment of mermaid kind, it didn't mean it wasn't nice to feel like you were attractive to someone.

"Sorry for taking your honey, little bees. I love you. I promise."

Today was the day of Snow's birthday. Hibiscus wasn't sure if she was prepared for a toddler running around the house. At least babies seemed to be permanently glued to their bassinets.

Little Snow grew up and inherited both Hibiscus's hair and eye color. Only time would tell whose tail color she would have.

After giving her some cake, Hibiscus decided it was time to get down to business. Snow needed to be potty trained asap.

Snow, however, wanted to play. The bear was fun, and the potty was not!

"Why belly big?"

"I'm going to have another you, probably in a few hours."

"NO! Only one me!"

"I'm sorry sweetie, but that's definitely not going to happen."

"NO! NO! NO!"

Hibiscus was right. After another round of potty training, the latest baby wanted to let itself be known to the world.

Hibiscus went upstairs to the bassinet, Snow's screams of NO echoing in the background.

Hibiscus welcomed a baby boy named Belgium.

Unlike when Snow was born, and Cassie called right away to come over, Cherish seemed to have no interest. Who was the mean one now?

"Make big mess so baby goes away!"

"Snow, I will not tolerate paint throwing, especially if it's on the carpet because that's really hard to clean."

"NO!"

"Okay, how about a comprise. Only make messes on the wood or tiles?"

"NO make messes on the carpet!"

"You know I still love you no matter what, right?"

"You love other me more!"

"Now it's my turn to say no."

"Play dolls?"

"Sure, let's play dolls."

Once Snow and Belgium were asleep, Hibiscus invited Kiernan over. She had to continue her mission, after all.

Once again, she got pregnant on her first try.

Kiernan seemed confused for the most part. Hibiscus hoped he'd be a better parent than Cherish, at least, but that wasn't setting the bar too high.
